If he's scrapped the car, but still has the plates but no paperwork etc, what would be involved in transferring them to another car, or is this not possible? I know someone who those plates would be ideal for.

I seen this kinda stuff happen before, some people have auctions for swapping PS2 games and clearly state that its just to gather interest, and the winning bidd will get £1.20 in the post. I think the bid was up to like £30 :/

go to a car show, they class the plates as "stickers" not for cars just to cover there back, lol

yea, the seller will understand (judging by his high rating) and not give the bidder a warning.

he's foolish for not reading the auction, he'd be even more stupid to pay out, and drive about with that plate on his car
