Right...was very cheap to do, all you need is fibreglass kit (£10 from halfords) and body filler (£5 easy sand p38, from halfords) and spray paint.
First of all, i took the old one apart, and around it has a frame and tabs on the side to screw it into place with.
I drew round this on a thin piece of wood, and cut it out.
Place this bit of wood on the inside of crash bar where u want it to go, draw round it.
Cut out, using drill to make hols, then a reciporcating cutter.
PLace the plastic case in, with 3mm spacers between tabs and crash bar, screw in.
Angle grind screws off from other side.
Place fibreglass sheet over, and resin up.
When dried, take it off and cut it down.
Resin it back on permanently.
Use body filler all over to get rid of grooves, dents etc.
Then sand down...which takes aaaaaages to get it 100% smooth, i did it bout 3 times, filling and smoothing, then decided enough was enough!
Then just spray up.
EASY AS THAT!!!

didn't have to extend wiring...it pulls out of dash to that level. Am putting a centurion screen in, but taking it out of its origional case, and making a custom enclosure AustinPXX

Tell you what may be quite interesting for you, is if you were to get one of those touch screen lilliput screens and make a custom mini PC in your car like that alfra romeo did.
A lot of work, i will be doing it at some stage, just an idea for you though.
