yeah when u get used 2 it, its pretty easy. Mig is sooo easy to learn. Arc takes a bit of practice, but pretty easy 2

Car panels are like paper to weld, so you want the power fairly low. A cheap machine is quite restrictive on power settings, usually low or high!. Pratice on scrap first. You need to get your speed right other wise you will either burn through, devolop too much weld or not enough. Dont where white whilst welding also. Keep skin covered as its the radiation that burns not the light.

I just bought a new 130amp mig welder off mig for £159 inc postage. I'd never welded before and just got some scraps and practiced. I still dont think im good enough to go near my car with it, but Im getting there. There's a few air bubbles in the welds, apparently this means there's not enough gas?

Halfords has a range of cheapish welders, saw one for about £60 the other week. Might be crap though.

i dont think its easy . i rekon its an art. i have a mig and an arc, but dont get time these days
some of the welders in the company where i work, can weld better than the robots we have. its amazin
i think you need 3 years as an apprentice, before your employable as a pro welder and you get tested evry 12 months to make sure your consistent.

MIG uses a shroud of gas to surround a tip and then you feed steel wire into the area as weld filler.
Arc uses welding rods which have a flux coating which stops contamination.

I heard the gasless welding is shite, and to weld with gas on the gas/gasless welders you need to buy a regulator, gas and different wire, costing about £30-40 extra. So I just got a gas one that comes with that to start.

use a tig welder for nice neat little welds. u can also weld s/steel and aluminum.

im not looking to be a pro or anything just do some diy bits, smooth tailgate etc....gona get me a welder and give it a whirl with some scrap!!!

ive just finished a 10 week mig welding course. got a city and guilds certificate after it too! just
got a 130 amp turbo mig welder for my xmas 
try welduk.com for some decent welders, got some groovy welding masks aswell!!

Im a welder by trade and regardless of what anyone tells you it takes years to perfect it. With MIG the welding settings arent set out as the are on MMA (Manual Metal Arc) so its all down to trial and error. Gas for MIG is bought on a loan basis, the loan being that the gas is yours but the bottle itself is returned.

i worked in a factory for 3 n hlaf months and in this space i learnt to weld, it is quite difficult at first, u get the hang of it in the end altho sumtimes u mess up

it may look nice and neat on the outside but its the penetration you have to get correct.
i had a shot on a TIG welder at the college, christ that was hard!!
i've also got a MMA welder but the cheaper range arent so good, they overheat and cut out then you have to wait for ages b4 you can use it again.
i would say to any1 who is thinking of learning to weld, go to a college and do a course, mine was £124 plus you get a qualification out of it. plenty of "HOMERS" for me for extra cash!!
