We had an interesting machine in the club tonight (bloody expensive too - £25k!). It's operated by the police, and it detects drugs.
They wipe the palm of your hand and fingers with a pad, and then insert the pad into the machine. The machine scans the pad and tells you what traces of drug you have been in contact with.
It has different detection rates, and if the detection rate is above a certain number it shows red, which warrants them to search you.
Most of the doorman, bar staff, management etc all got tested for a laugh, and recieved some suprising results. Every single person who got tested, showed a positive detection.
I personally had come in contact with cocaine, heroin and rohypnol (date rape drug). Now ive never touched a rec drug in my life, so that's scary! The police said that it could be from shaking someones hand, touching a door handle, touching the bar, touching a pint glass etc. I had a five pound note in my pocket so got him to put it in the machine, and it detected an extremley high cocain rating.
What gets me is, around 80% of the people they were testing showed positive for Rohypnol (date rape drug) - that's bad, and very worrying.

How reliable are the results though? Is it *definately* there on detection?

What a waste of money, why design and build a machine, that can never be used?

Just think how much drugs are gonna get used tomorrow night! I read that in 2002 the number for Extasy use was 4 million pills every weekend! Then think of all the coke, mdma, etc! The whole country will be getting done!

Its not all used to date rape women, you can use it to just get high aswell, but the fact that it can be used to rape women is scary. I think thats the drug that needs stopping the most

Erm, no. A shit load of trouble? All they do is search you.
I think it's a good idea, and they caught people too. Someone walked into reception to pay to get in, saw people getting tested and tried to walk back out - the police obviously brought him back to be tested, and he was carrying drugs.

It has different detection rates. They know how to work the machine, so they can tell if you've picked up the trace by no fault of your own (touching something) - or actually coming in contact with the drug.
