i have a 1.4 spi 8valve i am looking to put 16 or 17 inch wheels on my car i was told by a friend of mine that i am going to loose speed and burn more gas is this true an if so what is a good size to upgrade to i do a lot of driving high milage and didnt want a higher gas bill or loose speed

larger wheels will reduce performance & need more power to turn them, which means more fuel required.
Best size would be 15's if you want to keep the power yet have alloys, 16's will only give a slight loss in performance, but 17's & upwards will make your car as slow as a tractor pulling a trailer full of tatties!

basically mate, bigger wheel slower acceleration (more fuel needed to get to a certain speed etc) however, it will have a slightly higher top speed (not by loads mind you ).

Yep, 1.2 8v here on 17's, painfully slow, handles well though, lots of tramlining. will have to hang in there till the 2.0 is bought.
