Look at http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk it will have everything you need to get things set up mate
OH and yes you will need a router, but not 4way one as you are only having two computers on it. a 2socket one will be enough.

Really easy to hook two computer up over a router.
Heres a cheap one - http://www.lynx.net.uk/icc/code/products.asp?recid=287
You need the router......
Plug both computers into the router then the router into the phone socket....

4 port ones arent expensive either
with that you can connect your two machines up, as long as both computers have network cards and the corrrect cable+plugs.

mate go wireless, it will be so much easier to set and there will be no wires running about, plus you can use the laptop anywhere (on the loo etc ) and still access the net But if you going for a hardwired jobby, then routers dont come much smaller than 4 connections, hubs maybe but not routers
And as broster said, they NTL will not setup your network! although ntl allow the use of networking up to 3 computers (i believe) the engineer will just setup the modem on one of the computers and disappear, the rest you will have to do So get reading some networking sites to help you mate

we have a wireless metwork in our house, ntl didnt even set it up to a computer for us, they dont like it goin on more than one computer god no's why! so we got a wire from the modem to a router then we got wireless network cards, its great! the 54g belkin cards we got were about £40-50 isha nd the wireless router was£70ish, but its 54g so u can get cheaper!
