you just need a dvd player that will read DVD-R's or DVD+R's, depending which you've recorded on. some players will read them, some wont

ok well i have backed up all of my dvds and tried them in my home entertainment dvd player and they dont play. just wondering what i need to look for on spec sheet so that i can buy one. is it svcd or vcd?

i have compressed the ones down from dvd9 to dvd5 using dvd shrink if that helps...

Most if not all modern DVD players can play DVD+R some play DVD-R only a few play DVD-RW/DVD+RW.
If its a copy you may need a chipped DVD player or one which can be hacked to play multi region.

how have you copied it? onto DVD+/-R? or onto a CD-R? if you've done it onto a CD-R, then you need it into the right format, ie VCD and you also need to make sure you are converting in PAL not NTSC.

if you did a direct copy, then as long as your player plays dvd+r's, it should work.

oh, just remembered you altered the file. what format did you burn it onto the disc? dvds use a file format called .VOB, you need the movie in that format. try using TMPGEnc DVD Author, and go on http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ for full detailed explanations and methods

my pc dvd writer and i used dvd shrink to actually resize the dvd, i think i need a new dvd separate cause mine is about 18months old.

excelent! ive had my eye on one in richer sounds for a while now
