fucking hate the pricks that make viruses i just got one called w32.alco.(something)
in the process of getting rid of it atm but im really pissed off its my bro's fault by using the computer and then clicking ok messages that he hasnt a clue about!

my network at work has a virus, how hard is to check fucken floppies for viruses?????????
Made my mind up Im disabling them all first thing in the morning and everyone has to bring them me so I can put them on the server and that'll teach the bastards cos Im out the office half the time

Assuming you mean W32.Alcarys, that was created in February 2002, and any decent anti-virus programming (set up properly) should have killed that before it even got anywhere near infecting your system...

W32.Alco.AB@mm is a mass-mailing worm that sends itself to all the email addresses that it finds in the .htm and .html files. The email has the following characteristics:
From: Chief Skaler <admin@evol.com>
Subject: Evol Worm
Message:
There was an error with your smtp provider please read the datalink and send a copy to your ISP. Error1106 : Dead datalink (report is attatched).
Attachment: Errorlog.exe
The worm copies itself to the default shared folders of the KaZaA, Bearshare, and eDonkey2000 file-sharing networks. The worm also attempts to spread through IRC.
This threat is written in the Microsoft Visual Basic programming language.

like dan said, any decent scanner would of picked it up before it even had chance to do any damage!
Melville - there is a simpler solution, antivirus on all machines, and in each room an old P75 or a 486 with win95 on & a virus scanner, not networked up, and you have to update the virus definitions yourself, best way!
at work we've got 3 servers, all running norton antivirus corporate edition 7.6, all the clients in the school are automatically configured with the client-side of NAV 7.6 via an MSI in the domain GPO, so everything is up-to-date!
we've never had any problems with virus's - rock solid our network
