well it depends. see thats what im trying to figure out. i reckon you would see good gains.

Plenty of chargers about, look at mini's 1.6 16v supercharger.

200 bhp from a works one. Im up for that. anyone wanna gimmie a hand in hunting down chargers that would fit. ive heard you can get rotating spindles so you can make fiting easier.

you would probably have to get a custom bonnet made up cos there isnt a great deal of room on the top of the engine

i spoke to GMC. they said it goes in a treat. The charger takes a bit of time to bit (brackets etc but once thats on its a walk in the park.

Im lucky with mine as i dont have power steering or aircon so i have more room that others. That corsa is putting out 80% more power on a 1.6 16v. The kit is 2k new. thats using the rotrex charger and custom intercooler.

Im sure you can do the kit yourself cheaper. Im def gonna looking into it.

ooohhh sounds interesting, like the sound of this, you might have to lower the stupidly high compression ratio though

nah, i asked about that. the head dont need to come off. ul need to run a 5th injector i reckon. Its the bracket for fitting the charger thats gonna be a MARE!!!!

will take a bit of planning but i reckon it could work. The saxos and pugs responde well to supercharging so i reckon the vaux engines will work well too.

I looked into this and was very tempted. Prob was space - on my Sport, would have meant juggling lots of things around under the bonnet to shoehorn it in and it was also untested. You'd deffo have to ditch power steering and aircon. But in theory, no reason why it shouldn't work well on that engine, though you'll need a new ECU to really reap the potential. Problem is that the 1.6 responds so well to slapping on some TBs, makes the uncharted territory of a supercharger more uncertain. But I'd love to see one that had been properly converted

Yeah, a stand alone ecu would work well but thats super money.

I just fancy trying summin a bit different. and if your gonna get 80% more power from 0.8 bar boost then it can only be good.

there is a boy with it near aberdeen. im gonna pay him a visit to see how he has done his. Ever raced a polo g40. i did when i had my R5 GTT. what a shock i got.

i tell ya, im tempted.

this is it on a saxo, seems very straight forward.

custom brackets, 5th injector, reline oil feeds, custom intercooler.

a bit of fiddling but i have the facilities here, and a rolling road.

watch this space. (unless i get bored and go off the idea).

I imagine at 0.8bar boost, you'll either need to lower compression or use something like water injection. As a very minimum, you'll need a Unichip plus mapping. They cost around £350, so TBH you're better off spending a hundred ot two extra and getting a proper standalone ECU

I too thought about it. £££'s and lack of research available put me off.

HHMM, you could be right there.

The mapping aint a problem, i can get my mate to do that at cost price and i can get the hardware at cost price.

Im led to believe that a 0.6bar boost will be ok for standard internals and i wont need low compression pistons etc.

I believe the cost comes into the amount of custom work that needs to be done. If you can do MOST of the custom work yourself, then that should keep the cost right down, Only big costs i can see are the charger unit itself and the custom intercooler.

and a hefty bit of patience.
