Alright people,
I want to do a rear disc conversion on my 1.4 corsa sri, at the moment its got gay drums so whats involved in doing this (what parts would i need) or is the kit on PVD the best way for doing this?

tbh better off fitting a set of big front discs than gettin rear discs...
Daimo got Rear discs i think tho, ask him if u set on it...

Go to scrappers and unbold rear discs off a cav,astra mk3, claibra ( 4 bolts at back)
Phone courtney or pvd, jus ordered my disc conversion plates and handbrake cable off courtney today totalled about £73 or summat like that

I have heard horror stories of the rear discs locking up.
Do you reckon its worth doing this to my Nova? Already got Astra GTE 16v discs, calipers and a Nova GSi brake servo.

HEard the same. NEver had it once, never even actaully heard anyone say they have had that problem either.
Also heard that it flips the Corsas  Can't say i've ever heard any real stories about that either.
Also heard that Jordan was getting her breasts reduced. Remember, dont always believe everything u hear.
YEs, do it to the nova.
Oh, Adam, yeah, my drums used to lock up also. AS i say, never happened once with teh discs.

With a brake bias valve maybe I could set the rear brakes up for maybe a little less force than normal to prevent them locking up.

Yes - as standard. But if you fit bigger brakes up front (which is the place to start), rears do even less as a % of overall braking.
My advice would be that while we can debate the merits of a rear disc conversion, the best way to improve braking to start with is improving what's up front

Which I have done, so with only a X14/16XE up front its not really worth the hassle of fitting discs to the rear.
Just get my drums re-built?

It depends what you're after. If it's aesthetics - then rear discs do look good - no arguing about that. But whether they actually imporve braking performance is debateable. I've never driven a Corsa with before and after rear disc conversion, so can't comment personally. But I have been told by at least 3 different people who rally Corsas, that it's a much better idea to spend the £400 odd you would have to fork out for rear discs on making the fronts even better and leaving the drums on. I use Wilwood 4-pots and 285 discs up fron t and standard drums at the rear - it's very impressive stopping power

Your opnion is one of the only few that I listen to on CS and you have made my mind up.
Re-build the drums and make do with the 256 discs, Astra GTE calipers and Nova GSi servo with braided lines.

Well I'm flattered you think that At least the route you're going, you still have the option of adding them later, but you might find in the meantime that what you have in a light Nova is more than enough and you'll have saved yourself some serious dosh!

i am not sure if rear disk are gonna b betta but i done it few days ago purely for looks!
i got 2 sets of rear disks and a rear axle off astra or summit for £20, took my axle off the corsa, drums off, cut plates off, welded new plates off the astra/cav beam on corsa beam and put all back 2 gether!
need 2 make some new brake lines now and get handbrake sorted, part from that not as hard as i thought it was gonna b really!
not finished yet tho - hehe
just put the axle back on the car cos needed wheels back on the car and looks tidy:-)

U all know i love my rear discs
And, drums or discs? If they dont do much different, why give most performance cars rear discs? If drums do the job just as well?
Saxos get rear discs.
The Corsa C comes with rear discs on teh higer models
Discs are better than drums, period, case closed

I think the issue here Daimo is that if you had some money to spend, would you be better spending it on swapping the drums for rear discs, or would you keep the drums and upgrade the fronts? I know which I'd do...

But the whole rear disc conversion costs about £50 tops to do.
Thats nothing really.
True, if i had standard brakes, i would upgrade the FRONT end first (AS i did to my 288mm jobbies) THEN move to doing the rears after (as i done).
