Just been looking at an imported GTI-16 one but can't really find any specs on them A bit pricy though for a H reg with 111K! £4.5K.Blue with black rims..Looked nice..
Now i know the Turbo would be the obvious choice and there are quite a few to choose from but if insurance is a problem the 175bhp model looks ok don't it? Anyone ever raced/driven/been in any of these models?
Any other info would be great
Model BHP Years available How to tell them apart
Coupe 119bhp 1990-1992 No rear spoiler, 14" wheels
GT Coupe 158bhp 1990-1994 Rear spoiler, sunroof, 14" wheels, square rear light cluster
GT T-Bar 158bhp 1990-1994 Rear spoiler, removable roof panels, 14"wheels, square rear light cluster
GT Coupe 175bhp 1994-1998 Rear spoiler, sunroof, 15" wheels, round rear light cluster
GT T-Bar 175bhp 1994-1998 Rear spoiler, removable roof panels, 15" wheels, round rear light cluster
10th Aniv 175bhp 1995 Wooden steering wheel, chrome kick plates, different wheels, 10th aniv badge
GT Coupe 175bhp 1998-2000 Round spoke 15" wheels, large adjustable rear spoiler, clear front light cluster

Can pick up one with a lot lower mileage than that for 4.5k.
p.s test drove one, nice driving position, feels so low down, really cool having that engine roaring behind you. Would probably get a headache on a long journey though!

My mate had a '91 GT T-bar and a GT Turbo and I have a GT-S Turbo.
If you are buying a non turbo there is little point importing as there are loads of UK models with lower insurance.
Those specs you have aren't entirely correct either. Sunroofs were not standard.

God info there guys cheers!
I was hoping you would reply Dayzee i was gonna U2U ya
I get what your saying about the imports mate,it's like 30% extra for an import an they are the same speed? Bollocks to that. The anniversary ones look good in silver.
Are the N/A ones worth shouting about performance wise? I've told meself that the next car i get will be a proper sports car.Are the N/A ones tunable within reason?

I've never been in a 175BHP model, only the 158. Its pretty quick, doesn't weld you to the seat but it doesn't hang around. Rev's to 7K, my mate put 142mph on the speedo once.
I would imagine of you get the 175 model there won't be much more conventional tuning you could do, its 175BHP from a 2ltr remember, you'll need to spend some proper money to get any worth while increase.
There was one other n/a model, the last ones made were 200BHP with a BEAMS engine. (I don't know what the BEAMS bit is all about)

I was pretty scared in the passenger seat of my mates, when the turbo comes in its pretty wild! It launches like a 4WD aswell.
I personally wouldn't bother with an N/A, they aren't fast enough for my taste. If you've got 5K and can insure it then its got to be a Turbo. It really is incredibly fast, a rev3 will do 0-60 in 5.2s with a top end of 162mph. Quick enough to see most cars off. The turbos can be tuned easily aswell, 300BHP is no problems for a Rev3 and then its scary fast.

Its is quite amusing seeing people call you a homo (while choking back the tears) as you try to pull their doors off when you storm past. This works particularly well agains puntos where the doors are (and other fixings) are only held on by bluetack.

you have a turbo, any N/A mr2 is slower than me.
I love the way that you get all defensive about the car. I never said a bad thing about it.
p.s just checked the doors on the cars. no blue tac.

Try an online quote from Tesco, they are very good for MR2's.
