Was looking in my Max Power/Haynes manual the other day. They've got an even better idea than glueing the arch trims on.
Undo all the nuts on the arches, and take the arches off. Remove the bolts (even if you only want to do the top 2 troublesome ones - leave the rest as they are) from the arches (they slide out of their little grooves sideways) and replace them with speed clips (you know those little things that are like a folded piece of metal - like a clip thing - that have a hole through the centre for a screw to go through). Fit the arches back up to the body, and use rounded head, short screws, to screw the arches back on from the inside of the wheel arch.
This way, you can take them off again, should you ever need to. Should be strong too. Just gotta find really short screws. Spose you could always cut them anyway.

Had my GSI down 85mm at the rear, with 17's ET45 205/40/17 tyres, my arches have never scrubbed not once, the rear arches are just not bolted on they have been bonded
