Are all contract mobile phones locked or unlocked when you purchase them?
Reason being, i want to pay monthly get free txts/mins off peak etc but somone else will be having the phone and will we be able to swap sim cards over. I will be putting the new sim in my current phone which i know accepts all sim cards.

Orange and always locked, T-Mobile usually (unless you buy it from Carphone Warehouse and ask for an unlocked one).
All PAYG phones are unlocked, O2 contract phones are usually unlocked, as are Vodafone, except for Vodafone Live branded phones which are locked.
