can anyone give me an idea of how much a head gasket and bolts are goona be?, without labour please.
and also, can a reasonably competent garage do a pressure test? and also how much is that?
me wee beast is drinkin a bit of water 
any help appreciated

bolts less than £20, head gasket about £30ish just ball park figures, shit i should know i bought a couple of sets over the last few months, yeah a garage can do compression test, if i found a garage that couldnt i wouldnt trust me car with them lol

bolts £1.69 each + vat from vaux I think X10
I got a set from a engine builders for £9.99 + vat as vaux only had 7 wtf?!
Gasket £16 + vat from vaux.

about £250 - 300
may even be more....
i got charged £250 from a local garage to replace my head gasket

About 4.5 hours labour I think the book time is, plus parts.

at about £65 per hour labour i think..................... Thats Vaux for ya. They wanted £119 to change ONE ball joint, the OSF joint.

Jeeze! Are they nationwide prices? Or are you in some economically developed place?
I think vaux charge £40ph here.
Do people really go places that charge that much just for there VW?

My car was serviced with Vaux and they gave me a break down of their prices. It seems to be about £65 per hour to me. Either that or they exaggerate their job times a little bit
