Well did the police test the tints with a light sensor??
If not then I would get them checked properly, a tinting company should do it for you, maybe ask for a couple of quid.
Unless the coppers can prove the tints are illegal they cannot force you to take them out.

There's a piece in this months Redline about the legalities of tints.
havent got it to hand at the mo, but from what I can remember of it, the new law has been brought in.
Its apparently down to a fatal accident in Wales involving a motorcyclist and a car with limo tints all round.
The cause of the accident was put down to restricted visability of the car driver due to the darkness of the tints.
So instead of changing the law to limiting the darkness of front windows to say, 35%, they decide to ban window tints to any window in front of the b pillars.
Tints can be as dark as you want from the b pillars back.
The law is now in place so its just a matter of time before anyone with illegal tints to be pulled and issued a producer or fined.
Check out Redline tho for the full story.
