hehe mate this has been asked a million times. only problem is you can do a search for it because SRi is only 3 letters which u can't use to search with.

from what i have heard their isn't a great difference mate. i think the 16v has a better top end. i'm sure someone here will tell you the facts though

the deal is that ive just spent £500 on having the top end rebuilt because the cambelt snapped + £150 on various things in an MOT. but now its failed on emissions coz the piston rings are cracked

was thinking of getting a 1.6, but im thinking of getting rid of it soon come the summer so might just stick a 1.4 16v in there instead.

what ya reckon

might as well drop in the 1600 if insurance aint an issue.....

as for the SRi question,

8valve SRi is 82bhp with more low down tourque/grunt

16valve is 90bhp with better top-end and alot happier at high revs.

16valve is slightly quicker.

I dont really wanna stick in a 1.6 as i plan on selling it in july/august, and its already cost me over £600 and im still without a fully working engine.

changing from a 1.4 8v to a 1.4 16v wouldnt require a new gearbox would it?

engine mounts will be the same, engine should come with an ecu if not i think you could use your old one, dunno about wiring loom wouldnt have thought so but some one else would be able to give you a definate answer.

on a side note- because your SRi is 8v its one of the early ones(non ecotec)and i think from 1997 all corsas were ecotecs so if you get offered an ecotec lump find out if any extra work is needed to fit one, though im pretty sure there isnt

i think they are a little bit, but dought you'd notice it. economy technology so probably more restrictive inlet, exhaust and probably different ecu settings

Total waste of money!

The8valves say theres are faster and the 16valves say there faster.

All i'm guna say is the 16valvers need to be revved to get the power out, and its expensive if anything goes wrong.

8valves pulls lower down.

Honestly your rend up paying a lot more money if the engine goes wrong and you wont notice any power increase.

if ur doing a convesion its gotta be 1.6 or 2.0 mate

all the 1.4 16v engines were ecotec, on both the sport and the sri. the 1.6 engines are the ones where there are a difference, on the gsi and sport

im not doing an engine conversion for the purpose of extra power. its just to last me till july when i come to sell it.

1.6/2.0 conversion sounds great, but ive already spent £600 and ive got feck all to show for it except an car with split piston rings sat in my garage.

i need a new engine, and i want to keep the cost as low as possible
