soon as i got out of garage about 1 mile away heard a big bang from left of car while moving slowly in traffic!!!!
turned out one of the two bolts that held the left caliper cracked or came of!! and caused the brake to LOCK!!
GOOD thing i was only doing about 5mph!! imagine i was on motor way doing 70mph!!!!!!
anway, im shite scared now while driving incase happens again, the garage man said my old bolt was knackered n so cracked, and that it is very rare for the caliper bolt to brake and that i shudnt worry about it now!
is this true????
also, ive done 30miles since had them fitted and the braking power isnt "amazing" compared to original brakes, but then again ive been taking it easy and not bombing it around, do i have to give it time for the pads and discs to settle in???
also had new rocker cover gasket, cam belt, cam belt-pulley and alternator belt fited to!
cheers

Really, im fucked then, i've never changed them once and my brakes have been off a faaaiiiiiir few times
I split through a braided hose as well, also i was only doing about 5mph. Just pulled out Lee Mitchells drive, put my foot on the brake and pop, blew a hole straight thru it Doh.!

Make sure the bleed nipples at the top when fitting the calipers. Easy swap. Old kit off, new kit on.
Hose split because teh calipers were upside down and hose was rubbing on inside of wheel. I wasn't to know, there wasn't anyone really who had them 3 years ago on a corsa. Simple mistake as they fit fine the other way bar the hose being tight at full lock.

weres best place to get the set of 4 bolts for the calipers then?? vauxhall? how much?
also, how much would vaux charge for 4 locking bolts for the alloys, not the security ones just the normal bolts??

get the bolts from vauxhall, will be about 2 quid each max.
those 2l brakes are very good once the pads have worn in.

are the V6 ones better again?

i think the v6 brake kits have more breaking power coz of bigger discs and calipers.
have noticed my 2lt ones get "slightly" better in the last 30miles but i havnt really tested them properly, want to wear them down evenly, dont want no chuncks out of pads or disc, so gonna wait 200miles til test them properly
so £2 each max for the bolts, thats not bad,
is that jus the caliper bolts or both caliper and alloy bolts?

Changing the bolts is recommended but not entirely necessary, i put some 16v calipers on about a year back, then bout 6 months ago i took them off to spray them up, put the original bolts back on, but you gotta clean out the old Locktite and apply a fresh coat ont eh end of the bolt. use a torque wrench to make sure your doing them up tight enough.

yeah i guess it just depends how old the bolts are on the calipers,
mine must of been well old and knackered, so if one broke then the others have good chance of breaking too init, so i better get them done

be very careful with your new brakes on. Putting them under too much pressure too soon can cause them to become real crap after a couple of months, and you will have to replace the discs again.
