Right apparently I'm helping my mate build his ICE install this weekend  And it's my job to get some MDF but just wondered if anyone can tell me what thickness/ply I should grab?? I'm not even sure I should be getting MDF but I'm sure that's what he said...

thickness depends on the power of the equipment really. The less powerful, the thinner you can get away with cos it wont be flexing as much. My 1200w RMS subs are being housed in 18mm MDF i think, but it weighs a ton!

usually 18mm for sub boxes and 12mm for everything else

18mm for big ass stuff but 15mm will do most very happily, i wouldnt use any 12mm if it requires screwing into the sides of it as it will just split everytime
15mm is happy medium

corb, u reckon i will need more than 18mm for my setup then? (2 x 1200w RMS subs). Only the false floor has been built so far, speaker boxes are being done next week.

id probably use 1 1/2 inch thich mdf for 1200 rms subs. dnt know how many mm that is tho

38mm mate  which is pretty chunky stuff yea i would use 18mm min, but for 1200w RMS subs, 18mm might be abit weak..but 38mm lol bit extreme personally

yeah 36mm haha! Bit OTT, Inch think MDF would be fine Drunken.
18mm would do it, just brace the box.

i, ve got 18mm mdf in mine the back is about 10-15 mm lower than it was!
