What kind of bhp would be needed to get around 8 second 0-60 in a 1.4 16v?
Also how much mods would this require and also cost?

i would guess around 130-140bhp???
depends on a lot of other things though!

So for that a tourqe tube or mantzel add 15-20 hp,
105bhp.
What next to get up to 130-40 ish? chip, cam? How much would it cost?

JR's spec from his garage, should see an 8second 60mph time I reckon.
You can tune the 14 & 16xe lumps all you like and get some cracking bhp figures, but they will always lack that extra torque of the red-top

rubbish - providing you have a reasonable spread of torque, then bhp is what counts. That's why we have gearboxes - to multiply effective torque at the wheels

exactly the reason 16v petrols tend to have cr gearboxes, to multiply the torque. as the max torque figure is generally high up the rev range on 16v petrols

your wrong. 16'v engines usually peak higher up the rev range. they usually have a good spread of torque.

So back to the question after a powerbox or similar what would be the cheapest route to get to 130-140 bhp?

Torq Tubes --- 265
Full System Decat --- 350
All then need fitting.

around 150bhp

My old 1.4 16v would have done a 060 in around 8secs...
all you really have to do is increase your rev limiter to about 7000rpm... but go for 7500rpm....
If your going non TB route... do this..
Mantzel inlet
Shrick 256/264 (with 264 you would need new pocketed pistons)
SBD or PMC Exhaust manifold
flowed head.... inlets matched
Unichip or MBE ecu etc
ARP conrod bolts
All that on a 1.4 and a hoky coky rev limit of 7.5 to 8.5k will see you around 130/140bhp (ala JR/MattC old spec)

i managed a 8.3 but that was with all the interior in it (leather and alcantara everything) is bloody heavy that car.

UNICHIP's are supposed to be able to raise rev limits now..... but go for a standalone mapable ECU if you can afford it

Oh i would like to add to the list fo things to do, Get a set of SBD metal idler pulleys, its one less thing to worry about, i got a set fitted to my C16XE during the rebuild, it gives you piece of mind, the shitty vauxhall nylon ones tend to break up at high rpm or just cos of age and its bad bad news when the cam belt slips off

yeah noticed this on one of me mates corsas today wen we were doin the cam belt and head gasket.
