mine is and runs fine on the original 1.4i exhaust (1.75" bore),however it's only a temporary measure for me.
i've been told 2.25-2.5 " system are best, biggest being noisier though .

i think i should re-word the question what i mean is........
i currently have a jap powerflow system, but im swopping for a piper full stainless zorst, my question is when i have the 2.0 fitted do u need a new exhaust/cat to suit the manifold on the 2.0 engine or do you need a new custom system made up

u'll have to get a replacement as the front pipe of the astra bends the other way. If u wanna keep ur existing zorst, u will have to cut it, turn it round and weld it to the astra front pipe

Well mine didn't need a cat so i had the flange cut off then the system mated onto that.

so if your bore is bigger than that, your engine performs worse?
that assclowns guide needs sending via mail to you i think

no bigger bore exhaust get rid of exhaust gases, the smaller the bore, the more air creeps back up the manifold FACT!

^^^^ yep, perfect size for the Let is apparently 2.5 inches,
start getting bigger and you start loosing back pressure. i dont know how it works mind you, but if you exhaust has a hole in it you loose power, tis the same with a larger bore.
if you get me.....

yeah well dont fit an exhaust, or manifold for that matter. That has to be the easiest route

Using a bore that is too big for engine power loses you low down and mid torque. It's complicated to explain, but it's to with the waveforms of the pulses of the gases leaving the engine. With the right bore size, you can create a negative pressure that helps sucks the exhaust gases away. Too wide a bore and you lose this effect. Too narrow and the resistance to air flow starts to become a problem. For 160bhp engine about 2 inch bore is ideal. 200bhp engine about 2.25 - 2.5 inch bore is ideal.

/\ agreed - too big bore - loss of back pressure - loss of low/mid power /\

i think in a physics kinda why, i imagined air coming out the exhaust from and it made more sense for the air to go with flow rather than against flow if u get me

It's a fair complicated science, as Andy said there is loads more involved than just gasses escaping. It gets really complicated on 2strokes where they have specific expansion chambers to engineer in a certain amount of back pressure because of the way they expell exhaust gas. I can't see it being a massive deal in a road car though.
I've noticed on mine since the 2litre went its almost as though gas is struggling to get out at idle, I'm considering losing the twin exit and going for something more simple, it was only really for looks anyway.

well i took the old 2inch bore of coz it was spluttering and struggling, made my own 3inch and now its all cured and increased 3bhp , not much but its not a loss

Mine splutters about at idle, think it'smore to do with gas coming back out of a box it only just went into, then having to mess about going round wheel well and out of another pipe.
Also sounds awful, raspy at low revs and spits black water out of the second pipe.
