just got a new computer and a router 2 set up a home wireless network!

problem i got is the computer which is now upstairs needs a new IP address so how do i give it one???

i cant connect it 2 the network until i have sorted it!!

wud it work if i formatted my C:/ drive and re-installed windows etc and then try it???

the router should assign it one on its own. Go to control panel, networking, (or network and dial up connections), then go to the Local Area Network properties, TCP/IP properties, then tell it to obtain an IP and DNS server automatically. Restart or not with win2k) and that should work.

duno will look wen im home!!

the new computer is connected 2 the same IP addy as the old one was so they both got the same addys therefore the old computer wont sign up 2 wireless

sounds to me that you have got static IPs instead of getting one assigned via DHCP. Usually your router will have the IP of 192.168.0.1, so like drunkenfool said but instead of clicking the option to get a DHCP one, input your own - IP = 192.168.0.35, Subnetmask = (what ever it inputs, or 255.255.255.0), Gateway = (router IP) usually 192.168.0.1, then the DNS set as your gateway ip

if you do it the way VisibleMan says, also try 192.168.7.1, and 10.0.0.1 for the gateway as they are other ones i have seen being used. (Unless you know the IP of the router, then obviously just use that! )

stick the disk in, should start from cd, if not u need to setup pc bois to "at startup run from cd rom"

Its does wen u run the setup, shulup and listen !

To format the system c:\ u cant b running windows u need to b in dos from floppy, but either way xp cd needs to b wot u boot from SO, put cd in run boot up from cd and then follow instructions rest is easy
