when im stationary, with the engine off, then start it up, put it in reverse and acelerate, as the car just starts to move, there's a knock that comes from under the bonnet. is it the engine mount? or does it sound like summut else?

get someone to sit in the driver's seat with the engine running and the handbrake applied. Get them to plant there foot on the brake and, at the same time, put the car in 1st and try to drive (can be a bit hard to do proper).

stand NEXT TO the engine compartment (not in front of the car), and watch what happens. when the engine's crankshaft turns in one direction (as you accelerate and transmit power to the wheels), the engine will want to turn in the opposite direction. And if the mounts are really broken, you will see the engine twist and lift up, sometimes as much as several inches

you have to do the same thing with it in Reverse to check all the mounts, as it will lift/twist in other directions when in reverse.
