I stand corrected..Metro 6R4
The Metro 6R4 was the last, and probably the best, rally car ever produced from Austin Rover. A Group B supercar, it was designed with help from Williams Grand Prix engineering.
The 6R4 differed from other rally cars of the same era by not being turbocharged or supercharged, Austin Rover opting instead for a simple fuel injection engine. This allowed them to take full advantage of the multiplication rules applied to turbo and supercharged cars, namely, that if the car was fitted with a forced induction system then its cubic capacity was multiplied by 1.7. Consequently this meant that the turbo cars were restricted to less than 2 litres, whereas the Metro could run the full 3.5 litres. The engine producing almost as much power as the turbo cars, the Metro had a slight edge by not having to fight turbo lag, offering instead instant response and plentiful torque.
The Metro 6R4 was a true supercar in rallying, and in the hands of Tony Pond, relatively successful. It should come as no surprise therefore that for MRM International's first foray into the Resin model market that we should choose this car. We feel that it will have wide appeal to both modellers and collectors world-wide. The kit was the brainchild of Alan Webster a keen modelmaker and Group B enthusiast. Alan produced the master for the body and wheels, this coupled with Martin Blundell producing the chassis and other parts has given us this superb model.
Produced in 1/24th scale, the kit itself is a multimedia offering containing resin, white metal, photo etched and vac-formed parts. This coupled with an eight page instruction booklet using actual photographs of the kit during each stage of construction make this an absolute pleasure to build. The kit is currently only available in the RAC rally 'Computervision' colours although we do intend to offer it in different liveries in the foreseeable future.
