hello...
i'm a complete novice in this department...
bought some second hand gear from cheekycharlie when he wrote his car off, got a pair of 450W 6x9s which i have put in my parcel shelf but not wired up, and i also have two 10 inch subs in 1 box type thingy, no idea how many W these are.
thing is i wanna wire them up but i dunno what to do as i only have a 450W amp... thats not enough is it for everything? is it?
could i take the wires from the old speakers to do the 6x9's? if so how? i can't even find how to get to the things...?
i got a corsa B with the standard stereo...
any help would be great
Thanks...
p.s. my mate said he'd fit it for me, but he wasn't sure about the power etc... thats why i'm asking

Firstly its hard to give advise when i hav no idea how many channels the amps is, what voicecoils the subs hav and if the 450W the amp gives is rms or peak.
If u can find out some more spec on the stuff some1 wil answer ya question am sure,

sorry mate not quite with you lol
i have been told that the subs are 400W each aswell so its 1700W in total and i only have a 450W amp
i'll get a pic of a 6x9
could i take the wires from the old speakers to do the 6x9's? if so how?

thats only a 2 channel amp u hav mate so your only going to b able to amp the subs or 6x9's (not both)
In all honesty tho your amp isnt powerful enough to power the 2 subs.
U wil need either a more powerful 2 channel amp or even beta a mono block 2 power them both.

Yes, use that amp to power the 6x9's (which arent 450w either, more like 100w RMS).
Then find out make and model of the subs so u can find out what kind of power they need.

When uve found that it wil b easy 2 recommend an amp for the subs.
U might b beta ampin fronts in the long run tho otherwise all your sounds goin to b from the back of the car.

is the first thing to do not get a new h/u??
for a first head unit get a sony one that has 2 pre outs. My first one was only £120 and had 2 pre outs so yhe could amp the subs and comps eventually off 2 diff preouts

Wil take ya word for it but lets b honest he can do beta than a Sony head unit.
Yer thought he might hav standard fronts, just meant long term he needs to think bout ampin up a set of good fronts cos as we no all the sound from a set of 6x9's is hardly SQ, lol

u want at least 2 pre outs so that ya can wire amps off it.
As your going to be runnin at least some of your speakers from the headunit u want 1 with a fairly powerful internal amp
Something lik4x50W
Whats ya budget. If ya can afford Alpine i wud seriously recommend u do so

Basically each 6x9 is a channel off ya amp. As your amp is only 2 channel ya cant run ya subs from it aswell,
Plus ya amp doesnt hav enough power to just power the subs

Buy a hu off the net, you will save yourself loads of cash compared to halfords.
Alpine: CDA-9812RB

oooh i like
been looking on the net and seen there are 10 alpine ones : http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/default.php?cPath=3&sort=5a&filter_id=11
but looked on eBay and seen them for about 25% less... so i can get the next spec one up for £250 or so
http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&ht=1&from=R10&query=Alpine+CDA&sacategory=-1%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&soloctog=9%26%3D&sapricelo=&sapricehi=&sosortproperty=3%26sosortorder%3D2&gotopage=
what do you think of:
9812RB - the one you recommended
9831R @ £239 next one up
9833 @ £279 (just over, but is it better to pay for a better one?
or should i just keep my options open?
cheers for all the help, its really apreciated...

A 9831 wud be good, its the new 2004 model.
But the 9833 has the better amp.
If you are gonna amp the speakers get the 9831, if you are gonna run em off the hu get the 9833.

Agreed,
The 9833 does have the better internal amp but if your going to be amping your front and rear speakers from an external amp neway then get the 9831 as the better internal amp wil mean nothing.
As Adi said tho mate order 1 online cos Halfords/Ripspeed wil seriously rip u off!!

so if i bought the 9831 and say another 600*W amp that'd be ok?
then i could rub the 600W amp on the sub and the 450W amp on the 6x9s?
*600 is just a guess i have n o idea what i need

u need to know what the subs are.
u need front components amped, and if u must have 6x9 leave them on the hu as fill.

ok, so leave the 6x9s on the headunit, when i get a new one, which means i can leave the front crappy vauxhall speakers alone with out connecting them to the amp,
find out what my subs are and connect them to the amp if they're ok.
the person i bought them from had the subs connected to the amp fine...?
