Yeah, you should allow time for the turbo to spin down before switching the engine off. Otherwise, the turbo keeps spinning without any oil being pumped thru it

You need to give the hot oil change to come out the turbo otherwise it will damage it and can crack the ceramic blades as far as im aware , hence turbo timers.

yeah a turbo timer will allow oil to be pumped into the turbo while engine is off until it has cooled and stopped spinning. Otherwise it will overheat a fracture a blade.

Oil will turn to carbon and fry your turbo unless its allowed to leave the turbo and cool down first.

The engine does not turn off, it stay's running for a certain period of time letting it cool down as mentioned.

turbo timers are a total waste of cash. I never rag the car close to where I will be stopping and most of the time it's in a built up area so your not going to be boosting. get one if you want to make your car illegal and invalidate any CAT 1 alarm system you have

timers working while the engine is OFF?
and yes they are a waste of time, i either dont boost near a time where i'll be parking up or i let the car tick over for a while if i'm in no rush

I use my turbo timer to run the fans when the engine is off , and Ross where i live in the country i come straight off open roads to my house so they are a bonus for me.

way i see it is a turbo timer will allow the engine to tick over, after the keys are removed and the car is locked up.
However, a turbo will not be spinning when the car is on tick over.... so how can it possibly be of any use
Was always told to go easy on the throttle and brakes for the last few miles of a journey

just to cool the oil , no point in running a turbo timer any more than 1 minute as you will only re-gheat the oil , also it gives the fans chance to turn on.

Just a thought... Can you not fit an oil radiator to help cool the turbo as it runs to try and increase the life span of the unit? (Or do they already have those?)

so because theres still zaust gasses travelling through the turbo (even if its not spinning) the oil will take longer to cool, meaning your less likely to crack/bust something??

thats why mine runs for 30secs then switches off the engine and runs the power for 2 - 3 mins to turn the fans on then cools the engine.
I alsoi have twin Oil Coolers
