Hi peeps
I have recently had my centre silencer out to give my powerflow back box a little more noise. I have just recently found out that my Cat is situated in my centre box, so my car now has no cat [its a 2004 1.4 16v SRi btw] The car is stupidly loud now and gives me a constant head ache. My car now pops alot too wen slowing down after acceleration, my mate told me this was called back firing and that it is not good for the car? Also my cars fuel consumption is now even worse than it was. Firstly ne1 no wat this backfiring is? and also wat should I do? Just buy a full new stainless system?
Cheers for ne help.

backfiring is only excess unburt fuel ligting in the pipe, not too much of a worry, and the popping aint a backfire as such, backfiring is a BANG, poping is just either small amounts of gas burning OR so mix ofs of air (complicated) i think or im getting confused

correct,
the cat is straight after the exhaust manifold, you cant really see it unless you get RIGHT under the engine,
the big box you are looking at is just a huggggggeee centre silencer,

exactly...
weighs a fucking tonne
the reason why you're car is loud is because you've removed the biggest silencer. i replaced mine with a smaller one.

its only if u get say a custom made backbox which is louder than off the shelf models.. then thats when u get the car sounding like a tractor.

I didn't realise your car was in your centre box waheed, on mine its infront of the manifold. You'll be ok tho i'd of thought, mine pops and stuff and my engine has been ok, just find a friendly MOT person when it comes to MOT time
