I dont think Turkey is 3rd world matey, and besides, the UK probably has the densest road population in the world. There are more cars in the SE england per SQmile than most places on earth. Highways Agency does a good job IMO considering the sheer amount of traffic we have on our roads. Also, our climate is to blame. Our very warm summers (38 anyone?) and cold winters (well, cold-ish) helps potholes appear almost instantaneously after constant contracting and expanding tarmac.

My road/council tax actually feels partially worth paying at the moment, since the local council have finally re-surfaced the roads around my house......nice and smooth now, instead of the pot-hole slalom-course they used to be!
