like my house has 4 pc's a router and bb modem, modem is connected to router and pc's to the router star network effect
its the i.p adresses and router configs i dont fully understand, like my system....i cant get the pc's to see each other

Have a look for any decent TCP/IP Theory book, there's absolutely loads of them out there...
I'd suggest the one I'm using now, for my CCNA, but I can't see it being a cheap one since it covers the entire CCNA course-syllabus; probably best to look for one that specialises just on TCP/IP.

Do yourself a favour and dont act like you know about networking if you dont...
You will be found out and its worse to have to ask for help when you originally said you didnt need it than to say your not sure from the start

As above...
Have a decent read through the book (and I mean a PROPER read, not a scan-through), see where you get from there......and you have your own network to practice on.
Don't be afraid to say "I don't know" in an interview, honesty is looked upon more highly than someone who sits there saying "Ooh, I know this one, it's on the tip of my tongue, hold on, yeah, errm, umm, yeah, it's......errm, I think, yeah, I know this one, I was configuring 500 machines last night using it, yeah, errm......nope, go on, you'll have to remind me"!

TCP/IP for dummies is pretty good apart from the annoying cartoons. I also have (I think its called this!) "the complete guide to networking". About 1100 pages long, but taught me most of what i know.

for networking your machines up I think a book on TCP/IP is rather extreme, googling should be able to find you tutorials on home networking, and should bring you through things like IP schemes etc.
