iv got a socket set with a ratchet at home but thats too big. Need something really small for gettin inside a computer case. The vertical bit needs to be under 1 inch high, cos thats all the clearance i got.

Well basically the hard drive was attatched in a cradle sort of thing to the main set of drive bays, underneath the cd roms. There were 2 scews on the top to undo the hard drive. But theres another 2 underneath which are virtually impossible to reach!

rite, well u know the stack of drives at the front of your computer? You've got CD drives at the top, then hard drive beneath them. Well trying to remove the hard drive. As i can see it is attached with 2 screws on the left and 2 screws on the right. The 2 screws on the left were easy to remove because i could access them by removing the left hand side of the case. But the 2 on the right are nearly impossible to reach because the right hand side of the case does not remove as far as i can see - the motherboard is attached to it. Understand?

both sides of the case come off. But the one side there is in the internal structure of the case with the motherboard attacthed to it. So no way through there!

ah right i think i get y yer asking a a right angled screwwdriver now
sould like a right complicated layout. Is the computer old or new.
Old ones can be a right pain in the ass to get appart but this is very strange if the comp is newish.
are u deffo sure the screws have to come out?

it a hewlett packard pavilion mini tower case. about 4 or 5 years old. I think that removable caddy might be the answer. I'd have to remover the cpu and heat sink then though.

oh no i get you, you mean just the hard drive holder will be removable. argh. I thought u meant the whole holder for the full set of drives would be removable, cos it looks a lil bit like that.

just to update - managed to get the old drive out eventually - broke a screwdriver and squeezed my hand in there. Whoever designed the case should be shot. Anyway installed and set up new hard drive in no time. Cheers for the help.
