If I give the GSi too much gas in a high gear at low revs it splutters a bit, cuts out and jumps. I thought this was just the way they were at that age/mileage but I drove Pauls SRi which has nearly the same mileage and its perfectly smooth. Mine has had plugs and leads. What else can I check? I'm thinking it might be flooding perhaps?

Sounds like a fuelling problem Ian - maybe get your lambda sensor checked?
