if the 2ltr is out of a car up to a j reg then you dont need a cat but you have to prove the year of the engine for it not to need a cat test .. if its out of a car from k reg up it will need a cat for emissions

the emmisions must comply with the year of the car not the engine.
right?

if the engine is older than the car then you test the emissions on the year of the engine .. not the car .. but you hav to prove how old the engine is most of the time ... unless you know someone that knows vauxhalls

there is a book that all mot test stations have that have a list of all cars in and their emmisions limits, if you cannot find the model of car in this book ie corsa 2lt 8v, then a basic smoke test has to be carried out instead of a cat type emmisions test... this comes from the Mot people, you can check thier site (dunno the address)
and before any says i am talking crap, i test cars for mots at work, we found out the above when we came to do an imported scooby legacy twin turbo, it wasnt in the book therefore it got the basic smoke test done.
so jon, if you go back and ask them to find the emmisions limits for a 2lt 8v corsa in the book and they cant find em, ask em to ring up the bigwigs at MOT hq and explain the situation

right?
no. if an engine is designed to run without a cat, it shouldn't run with a cat

u have to be able to proove year of engine like a reg doc from doner car or a service book with engine number on with vin number u cant go by the castin date under the oil cap as i have a 92 xe with a 1987 casting date but if u cant proove the year ul have to have a cat fitted
