To get a booster all you gotta do is buy the same access point again but set it to repeater mode.

access points are 30 - 40 quid where as an antenna is only 15 quid or so.

But by buying a wireless network card, you will have Wi-Fi.
Just get a wireless network card that has a socket to plug an (optional) antenna into.
If not, get a USB wireless network device, you'll get a better signal than a PCI card.

Because the USB is more flexible, you can move it around to get it into a better place, rather than it being restricted to the back of your PC.

You wont get a signal that far without a repeater. An additional aerial will get you nowhere. You want to buy a repeater and ask to put it in like the 3rd house down or something.
I have the D-Link DWL700AP and 3 wireless laptops and i cant get a signal more than 50 metres from the house if the AP is on my desk, or no more than 150 if i put it out the window

best bet mate, wack a big arial on the router (if it doesnt have a screw connector, then im sure you can solder one onto the board) and do the same on the PCI card (which allows you to do this via the screw connector)...then wack the arials on the outside of the buildings etc problem solved
theres loads of websites about this, and i was reading a website where a bloke just changed arials (using more directive arials) and managed to get a 5mbps connection 5 miles away..

aye true...but its the only way to go, if he cant use repeaters in someone elses house, then there is no point having one next to the wireless adaptor
only other way is to go into microwave links, which can be brought for about 1k to about 5k+ quid and will do anything from 500m to 20 odd miles - i was looking into this as my bro lives about 2miles away (as the crow flies) and he cant get broadband (small village)...but BT got their arses in gear so hes getting sorted in a few months
tbh, it comes to using bigger arial (in which case, need to look it all up etc etc) or going for a microwave link.....cant think of anything else
