went for an mot today and was told i need a cat fitted as the car is a P reg, however the engine is from a 1990 precat cavalier and has no sensor for the cat. can anyone clear this up for me as i now have and un taxed and tested motor on my hands.
also i now have vibration under the car that was strangley not there this morning ffs.

you will if the engine originally had a CAT depending on the year...any red tops post 92 (i.e cav SRi) will require them. But any car pre aug wont, some MOT stations are leanient and will just pass it some will require you to produce a log book to prove the year of the engine.

So basically emissions are tested on the year of the engine not the year of the car

so they are talkin shite as i thought, i spoke to the DVLA just now and they said to ring VOSA in the morning and they will clear it up.

just try a diff MOT centre its clear they atre fuckwitts and will rip u off if they find something wrong

I thought it went by what ever was oldest, car or engine.

yeah i can't see how i can stick a cat on if the ecu has no facility for it, i'm pretty p!ssed with them as the car is now noisy as if the exhaust is blowing or rubbing. it wasn't went it went in suggesting someone has been on a test drive .
