I've just phoned liverpool victoria , to find out exactly what they will and will not insure on your car , so heres the deal .

They will not increase the premium for any body mods , however they will , in the event of a claim , only replace parts to standard .

Engine mods are allowed , but only if they do not change the actual "cc" of the engine , so an exhaust and airfilter , for example is allowed , but engine swap wont be .

Also , if your going to go on your dads name , they "stress" that you can only use the car two or three times a week .

Ive seen a lot of people asking these questions , so hopefully this can answer them , because I got quote of £600 under my dads name with Direct Line , and a quote of £300 with Liverpool Victoria , so I see them as being pretty good

the point is your lying and breaking terms and conditions if you are not the main driver of the car. Just like breaking any other contract it could become null and void. But chances are they will never find out that your dad never drives the car.

I'm with LV, and had them check with a supervisor, and had it confirmed that:

a) they replace like-for-like up to the market-value of the car
b) they WILL cover engine-transplants

they were being right bitchy with me when I went to get a policy... lowered 60mm on coilovers, v6 brakes, alloys. No other cosmetic or performance mods.

Said they needed to discuss it with the underwriters & get back to me...

21 with 2yr NCB - they said £1450 FC on a 1.4 8v

Got it through Tesco for £780 inc mods!

Has anyone with a heavily modified car, insured through Tesco, ever had to make a claim?

Its not LVs place to make policy - they're only selling an underwriters product. What you hear will vary wildly depending on who is actually providing the insurance, not just supplying it.

But still, getting a cheap premium isn't very good if the cover or service provided is crap.
I can't believe Tesco will happily pay out in the event of a claim for all the modified cars currently insured through them.

most insurance companys will only pay out for stadnard items. eg if jag corsa hits a car head on and fucks up the front they will put on a standard bumper.

im with them under mums name, 300 quids fully comp, 1st year driving, 1.2 8v, all mods, wheels, and i can basically do any mods i want to the car , u dont actually need to declare the stuff either as they dont care if u mod it, and dont actually pay out for the mods, so its good, as if i damaged anything i wouldnt be claiming anyway because then my insurance would be sky high for years, so why insure mods u wont want paid out on ? as vibro says ,. most companys would do that a nyways. put back on std bumpers ect which i have anyway, only diff is i have post 97 or pre 97 car , they will replace my wheels with other alloys butt hey wont be 17" they will be std vaux 1s ....
