Morning all,
Cleaned the car at the weekend and noticed that I'm out of all my cleaning products so off to Halfords at the weekend to buy myself some new stuff. Just wondered what everyone used to clean the many different parts. And what method you used to get it all looking nice.
Bodywork -
Tyres -
Plastic trim (like skirts and above bumper) -
Interior plastics -
Windows -
Engine bay -
Upholstery -
Alloys -

Best polish/wax for body work is either Meguirs Gold class or Autoglym Super resin polish.
Turtle wax alloy wheel cleaner with Meguirs tyre gel, but not the brake dust barrier stuff - thats crap
Autoglym Glass polish works well on windows.
WD40 brings off loads of s**t from your engine bay, as does carb cleaner. Carefull where you spray it though.
Autogylm do a cleaner for the window seals too which is great, followed by a rubbing of vasiline.

I guess just normal upholstery shampoo will work good on seats and door cards?
How about the black plastic parts on the car?

I like turtle wax 'back to chrome' or summin like that...t'is misleading as its for plastic trims...but works a treat

Not found a strong enough one to get out Garlic bread grease yet but your better off using the House hold upholstry cleaners instead of the car ones. Have a look in next your in Asda.

i use zymol car shampoo and its amazin, one bucket will clean all of my brothers golf including the wheels, i need less than one bucket.
its green and u get it from halfords, its 5.99 for a litre and it smells like suntan lotion, its amazin!

Everyone has their favourites but here's what I use:-
Bodywork - Turtle Wax High Gloss liquid wax (polishes off easily even at low temps or damp conditions and does not dust up when polished off)
Tyres - Turtle Wax Black Chrome (this might be what L330wnz was referring to). This is really good on tyres as it gives a good even colour but no real shine - after all tyres were never ever supposed to be shiny. It's a bit messy to use though, I paint it on an area at a time then buff off with clean rag. The result is worth it though.
Plastic trim (like skirts and above bumper) -
Interior plastics - Halfords Interior Trim Cleaner Matt Finish
Windows - Just a little washing up liquid in warm water, wipe (not wash) over then dry with chamois
Engine bay - Depends on whether you're working on something relatively clean or dirty. Get the worst off with Gunk and elbow grease. Once clean a regular wipe over and liven up the black plastics/rubber with your favourite trim cleaner (Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care works well, as does Simoniz Back to Black Gel)
Upholstery - Ambersil Groom
Alloys - Normal car shampoo and wax, the secret is not to let them get too bad in the first place. Once brake dust has eaten into the surface you'll never really get them back.

i agree with leafgreencorsa. Simonez back to black to cheaper and good. Make sure you dont get the spray though cos it goes on the paintwork, especially if tis windy. Same goes with the tyre stuff. I used to use Turtle wax Wet and black in a spray but my car would end up being covered in little spots of grease!
Leave it mucky its cheaper and no one tries to half inch it

My mates dad is a car valetar and he said that Johnsons baby oil is the best thing to use for the black plastic.
