some people try to say you don't need them as the nuts will hold the wheel dead-centre.
yeah it will hold it centre to an extent, the spiggot ring will keep ot spot-on all the time, as even when the nuts are tightened, there is still a tiny amount of play without the spiggot ring & if you go over a big bump or hole, then it can shift the wheel & bend the wheel nuts. if the spiggot ring is there it can't do this.
