I’ve been offered a GSI engine and all the other parts required to do an engine conversion for £300 (including GSI breaks, suspension etc.) I currently have a 1ltr engine.
I spoke to one of my mates who is a mechanic and he reckons that the wiring could be a problem (Although the engine is the later ecotec version x16xe).
Secondly one of the cams broke which resulted in the cam belt snapping which in turn bent 6 of the valves, but these have been replaced. My mate said that changing the valves might not be good enough and sometimes engines need to have the head skimmed.
Can anyone please give me advice and any possible problems with the wiring?
Thanks

Sorry to change the subject but how much do you reckon a garage will charge to do a conversion?
If I supply all the parts, just labour costs?
How long does it normally take?

How does the wiring differ? Im trying to collect information so that I can pass it on a mechanic.
He says things can get tricky when your trying to convert an engine that was different to the standard one in the car

the loom is different, in the sportsect. the loom is all collected together, but with the 12v and also the sxi (and all 1.2 i think) the loom is dotted about everywhere. also with the 12v, the CAT is in a different place so you'll need the whole zorst system from the 1.6 too

The guy I'm buying the engine off has the full exhaust system. He also has things like the steering wheel and air bag which I'd stick on ebay to try and make some money back.
