right running comps through a server in office and the software we tend to use i s4ce which runs through DOS so when we send a plot goes fine and goes through LPT3 and if we send a print of a normal thing through windows it goes through server. But now weve upgraded to n4CE survey software which is windows based but cant plot throught lpt3 do we need to go through server like normal printer?

You will probably find that LPT3 is a captured printer port connected to a printer on the network through a standard UNC path i.e. \\server\printer - all you need to do is print directly to that printer as you would any other application assuming that is the issue.

Just install it as you would any other network printer.

Hope this goes some way to helping resolve the issue.
