in last year the speedo has been making a constant clicking noise, gets Louder and Faster the higher the speed????

the speedo and/or the rev counter has been replaced TWICE by last owner?? any ideas WHY???
also the speedo needle is jerky/shakes/hesitates to rise until it gets to about 20mph, after which it is nice and smooth????

94 L reg Gsi B, with 140mph speedo + 7K rev counter

Had this on one of my old cars.
The problem turned out to be a dry speedo cable.
Was cured by greasing the cable.
Remove from engine end, pump grease down the inside of the outer cable to allow the inner cable to turn free.

from the sounds of things it's gonna snap pretty soon, this fault is normally caused by poor routing of the cable. try and take the smoothest route possible with no sharp bends.

i had this, my dials had to be changed too, didnt sort it, turned out to be the routing of the speedo cable, try pushing some more cable into the car form the engine bay to loosen it a bit, just needs to be nice and smooth with no tight angles and no tension in it

its on the left hand side as you stand infront of the car looking at the engine, behind the engine, put ya hand down the back there will be the clutch cable and speedo cable, the speedo cable is the one that is split in 2 if ya pull the two halves they come apart
