Not sure how much BT have advertised this, but it might cheer a few people up on here! BT are scrapping the distance limits on ADSL, so now 99.8% of the country will be able to get at least a 512kbps service, and they plan to start this in about4 weeks.

Plugs into your ADSL line, and the other end into a hub. Connect as many computersa you like to that hub, and you have 24/7 access with no need to dial up ever cos the modem/router combo does it all for you. Mine has been on for 19 days without dropping the connection.

tbh, its totaly bollocks because of the way ADSL works not everyone in the 99.8% of country will get 512K (eaxctly) because of line distance - ie: further you are away, crapper the quality of connection
personally, if ya live in the sticks i would look at getting a sat connection Ive seen dual directional sat connections for about 30-40 quid a month, ie: you dont need to use a modem for your upload stuff Plus its bloody fast, like 2mbits/s although i dont know how good latency is on them connections, therefore gaming could be abit crap
