Couldn't you just say that you were not driving at the time , get a mate to admit , and pay him to take the points ?

there no way around it mate
if u get 6 points your out no matter what you say
its classed as a standard fine
all they will say is :-
"where your doing 53 in a 30, answer yes or no"
you :-
"Yes"
them :-
" this is a fixed penalty of 6 points"

You could end up with a worse penalty if you appeal.

Put it in writing to the court and ask for the case to be re-opened.
Atttend the re-opening and see what they say
This can be done as i work in a court and deal with stuff like this everyday
