A condom on the telephone plug is the best protection.

F-Secure is a good one, firewall, pop up stopper, virus stuff as normal and auto updates on any new virus's
the littler, unheard of stuff is always the best to use

good protection setup:

Norton Anti Virus - Dont know about everyone else but I've ran this on about 6+ boxes without a problem, of course any other Anti Virus suite that gives you updates is good.

Firewall - Even with a nated connection through a ADSL router they still suggest you run a software firewall on your machine, Zone Alarm and Black ICE are recomended as they are suited for people who dont know firewall rules, can be easy to configure.

Spyware - Spyware is a massive program at the moment and some Anti Virus programs still dont pick it up, you can get two programs for free which I'm going to suggest, they are Adaware (check google) and Spybot search and destory (again check google). Each program will find spyware the other one doesnt and remember to keep their definitions updated!

You can also go noe step further and replace Internet Explorer with something like Firefox, which can also help defend against spyware as most are made for IE users.

And one more note

If you are sitting on a fast connection (adsl/cable/leased line/whatever) then have Windows Updates download+install updates whenever they are ready to get. This helps if you forget to run it every few weeks.

Hope this has helped, and always check google!

I use Kaspersky AV it updates every 3 hours if there are definitions available for downloding and if U tell it to update from extended databases it gets more updates for Trojans and spyware Etc, For a firewall I use agitium Outpost firewall Pro cos U can see what is accessing the Net andwhat ports on Ur PC its usin! and for 1 more I use Webroots Spysweeper that allso gets updated definitions for new spyware!

I use ZoneAlarm Pro and AVG Free Ed. The AVG virus scan is a bit crap as i forwarded on an e-mail with an attachment to a mate and his Norton picked up a virus whereas AVG didn't. Gonna purchase Norton ASAP.
