worse is when it wears down the barrels of the bore so much its either a case of it having new barrels fitted, or new block

how did it bend then?? can't get into mig at work

The story goes like this:

Smokes a lot at idle
Take off turbo for recon
Discover a load of oil on the inlet to the turbo from the breather
Do compression test
Cylinder 3 down 3 bar on the others
Remove head and piston
Bent Rod

It has oversized pistons in it, and was meant to be a new engine fitted about 25k ago, so I assume that when this engine was fixed, or a recon fitted, whoever fixed/recon'd the engine fitted the fucked rod. You cant get a damaged rod like that without damaging the piston...

I can't see why they just didn't get a new one to replace it with, not a hell of a lot is it really.... but some people just turn their heads to problems, rather than sorting them. just good that nothing else has been damaged

I dont think the cause is anything do with my engine, as said, if that rod was damaged in there then there would be some mess on the piston, which there isn't. I'll put it down to a lazy engine rebuilder, and at least that way I dont have to worry

he may have missed the bend..... and just put it all back together...

It takes some force to bend a rod

he may have just been about to check the rod, then his mate kicked him in the bollocks, so when he came back to fit it, he thought he'd already checked it ?
