just picked it up mate, to be honest i was really lucky, and blagged my way through my interview got a probation period and in that time showed them that i was competant at what i do im currently classed as a multi-trader because i dont have any specific qualification in any field. when i get sorted, i will be doing an evening course in carpentry and will then be employed as a full time carpenter with my firm.

reason i asked was because im doing my carpentery apprentership and did want to just work for a firm with out the hassle of college, but i knew if i worked like that and then wants to change firm etc i would have to blag why i have not got NVQ'S etc.

Thing with sitemanagers/foremen is they try to save as much funds as poss, so when the build directors and contracts managers look at the figures, it looks good on the foremen, same with handover dates, a site manager will get so many houses to hand over for a certain date but you will find some sneeky foremen try and get a few more plots handed over in order to impress the people above him, then because you've rushed about and got the work completed, theres fuck all for you to do the next month and so on, and again ebcause you've rushed the plots, there's more faults, and the foremen get you to go back for free of charge.
However I'm quite upfront with foremen, if they try their stunts on me I usually say ' You can pay me the hours for the work and the hours I'm not spending in the next plot or you can get your patchers to do it ' .
