Been quoted 275 -325 to have it fixed, on a 1.4 16v. Sound reseasonsble?? Also anything i can have done to add a few more bhp whilst their doin it?? cheers

Will the head is off get it skimmed and ported

I paid about £400 to have the head gasket changed, the head skimmed as it was proper warped, and all the valves needed to be re-seated.

Im replacing the head gasket on my 1.4 16v and its costing me £33 and a saturday.

I think thats the same as I paid, I also got my head skimmed, I don't think this adds any bhp it just stops it from happening in the future.

It definitely wants skimming! Price seems reasonable. You couldnt do it yourself properly for £33!

You only need it skimming if the head has warped. and you really should put a new cam belt on while you've got the head off, but £50 and abotu 4hours sounds reasonalble.
But if you have aircon then it's a right mare, so will cost more.

had the cambelt changed bout a month ago!! finding out tomorrow whats exactly wrong. Whats this about having it ported and what gains am i looking at??!!!! ta

roughly 10% gains, but depends very much on the skill of the person doing it. If you're not doing any other tuning then save yourself the money.
