Looking for another XE engine for my Corsa, if its a single belt, can it be converted to a double for the power steering?

Surely fitting a new gasket in the sump is a lot easier than changing the engine

So you can use the whole sump gasket set from the XEV? Or do you need stuff from the XE gasket set too? Would prefer a rubber gasket to a chocolate one really.

ive not fitted it yet (obviously) but looking at it id say it just goes straight in. The baffle plate bit is sort of molded into the rubber gasket bit

it doesnt. I presumed it was a leaky sump as this is very commom fault with the original cork gaskets.

My sump is weeping actually, plus there are traces of oil seeping from the head gasket yet no signs of oil in the water, neither is it using any! On full throttle it does throw out some smoke and oil consumption is pretty major when cruising at 130
I'm sure it not valve stem oil seals as it doesn't throw out and smoke in the morning, I'd have thought that over night, the oil would have run down the stems, when i start in the morning its clean as a whistle!
Could be sump gasket? Piston wear?

Only way to find out is to whip the head off and inspect. I'd say new piston rings or valve stem seals would be a lot easier than an engine change - also you will be getting a similarly aged engine which will possible get the same problems...
