Obviously the power output of the C20XE is more than the standard C16XE
But the question i have is this?
Would you rip out the C16XE and drop a C20XE?
The problem i can see is obviously the weight and the fact that the C16XE is very tuneable
But.......
The C16XE as Not Normal pointed out to me - will never be able to compete with the Torque of the C20XE, also if you start getting the C16XE to C20XE power then will reliabailty become an issue?
So would you rather......
Keep the C16XE - tune it and get close to C20XE (bearing in mind the previous torque comment?)
Or
Rip the C16XE out and Dump the heavier C20XE with a view to tune it in the future?
bearing in mind Even though the C20XE is sitting in the Cavalier at the mo - its still going to cost to fit it the PROPER way, then i could use the money for other things like having the little bits of bodywork i would like doing.....
I see that alot of the Nova boys are now prefering to use the 16XE series and seen awesome power out of them - but i still like the thought of a 2.0 16v Corsa to "mix" it with the "bigger boys"
Views?
Discuss.........

I wanted a C20XE, then realised I like the car as it is (lowered 60/80mm on Speedlines) and decided to keep the C16 and get a blow over and coilovers next year

i went from a 1.2 8v to a c16xe but if i was alowwed by insurance it would have been a c20xe without a doubt.
the amount of money parts to tune the c16xe cost to get it to the c20xe's power.
the c20xe is straight out of the box... and with only small amounts of money goes way about the c16xe.
having said that the c16xe is a good little engine...

C20XE makes the corsa front-heavy tho so understeer can be fun...
C/X16XE engines are lighter & so not as bad with understear...

C16 and X16 both identical, pointless saying they're different because they're not.
I'd happily replace a 16XE with a 20XE in fact, I might just do that!

C20XE all the way, oh and you will need about 140BHP to beat a VTS, well pull past it slowly with a tuned 1.6, only difference between X16XE and C16XE is the head, C16XE has no EGR shite etc, bottom ends are identical, i had a X16XE crank in my C16XE

i know most xe's are 10 years old buts whats the big deal about playin it safe and rebuilding them, when ppl drop in a x16xe with 80k on the clock bet they dont have it rebuilt most of the time, as we are fooled its a newer engine etc etc when xe is only like few years older
yes safer option always is gonna b to rebuild any engine, but my corsa engines have all had 50k on clock bar 1.6 i got and my xe had 57k on clock only difference is 4 years

The way I see it is that I personally wouldn't want to fit anyone else's engine without having it rebuilt. That's not to say I want everything replaced to standard spec, but that I'd like everything inside to be given a once-over to make sure it's all happy.
I drive my current engine with enthusiasm and I'd expect other engines to have had the same abuse, but what's to say the owners kept up with service intervals, etc?
