In a hurry to get to Uni this morning, my car (1.2 8v Corsa B) wasnt interested. The car basically started, but immediately cut out, I tried to start it about 20 times with failure. The only way I managed to start it was to flood it by putting the accel full down.
I think this could've been due to dirt in the petrol? Or could it be something more than that? it's fine now, though!

was it a cold damp morning?? could just be damp in the ignition system. happened often on my old 1.4 8v, so i changed all the HT leads, dizzy cap & rotor arm & it helped a bit. but is worth checking the wiring out.
where the ignition amp is connected to the engine loom (its the bit the middle HT lead connects to from the dizzy, its mounted on the passenger chassis leg) just check the plug for corrosion. Mine was bad once & covered in crap & green shite so i cleaned it up & sprayed a bit of WD40 on the connector & it worked fine afterwards!

Cheers, I just sprayed some WD40 on the cables, wasnt that damp this morning, cold though (was about 9am)... its been fine since after i managed to start it right enough.
The car is basically an N reg (early 96) with 49,500 on the clock... wish i'd never bought it - uneconomical lump! lol

1.2 8v should be fairly good with petrol aslong as you dont use the accelerator like an on/off switch!

with a 1.2 you have to though or you dont go anywhere.

mine is too, and my fuel gauge is well floaty! takes ages to go up, put ya foot down and it dows oposite from the spedo and starts to go down, then when ya slow down it starts to go up again! lol. this fixable?

yep! exactly the same problem. I think (possibly) the float is at the front of the tank, soi its not fixable based on it moving when you're on different land gradients, but i'd also like to know if it can be fixed, its a pain in the arse

i found fitting rev meter dials
the fuel hgauge was more stable

i was gonna say the same thing... i used to have to rag the crap out of the thing to get anywere in it. hit a hill and the speedo just goes down no matter how hard u push the trottle.
the final straw was gettig pasted by a 3cylinder micra.
the new engine is so much better
