Damn it, knocked the arches out, ground some material off, everything looke perfect. Drove the car and everything is fine until I pick up some speed and then crunch, the tyre hits something

I have jacked the car up and looked at what the tyre could be rubbing on, but there is nothing there anymore. I think there is a ghost in my car

On a plus note, I found a dead wasp in between my inner arch and plastic arch when knocking out the inner rear arch

Since I cut my arches and flared them mine doesnt rub too bad. But where it does rub is right up inside the arch on the main body of the car. Nowt I can do about that though and it hardly ever rubs. Depends on offset of wheels, how low etc. so dont know for sure what yours could be rubbing on!

ET49 18x7 -40mm, soon to be 60mm if I can get enough space in the arch. I think that it is the tyre bottoming out on the inner arch right at the top. I was thinking about getting different offset wheels, but actually there is about a 3mm gap between the suspension strut and tyre

Sounds like its rubbing on the inside somewhere, have you tried bashing the inside of the arch in a bit ?

ye thats where mine rubs but Ive only got 17s. Would of thought you are gonna need alot of arch work to get it lowered 60mm on 18s and still be sort of driveable!

Yep I have knocked the lip in as far as I can, might remove the rear springs so I can lift the rear subframe even more than I had done to see...

If you take the wheel off can you not see any marks where the dirt has been worn off from the wheel rubbing ?

Yea, but I knocked all that in. It is mainly because the bloody passenger side arch is a tighter fit than the driver side I think it needs more knocking in though, obviously duh....

You could clean all of the inner arch out, and spray it with stonechip inside, then once its dry take it for a spin, take the wheel back off and it should be quite obvious wot it was rubbing on

Ahhh, good idea. I got to spray some stuff in there anyway to cover over all the chips and bare metal where the paint wore away. I'll try grey primer...

May sound old fashioned but take it for a quick spin when the car is cold, get it rubbing before the car warms up fully, take it home and have a feel round the arch to see what's got hot with friction.

mine is bottoming out at -70mm on 17s et45 , angle grinded the metal arch lip and knocked it out with ahammer flaired it out like fuck to give it good clearance filed the lip right back on the plastic arch trim and right up in the inside arch thats part of the car where the tyres bottoming out on it knocked it out with a hammer a bit b ut its still catching out it with anyone in the back, was thinking of cutting a section of the top inner metal arch away but its part of the car and not sure if thats safe?? what you think?

anyone else done this?

BTW, et49 is no longer the perfect offset when using 17+ inch wheels. ET45 is best when using 18's.

Just cut the whole rear quarter off and glue the window to the B pillar.

No. Cut the rear quater panel and anything underneath away.

try taking the plastic trim off and cutting away a small part of the metal underneath. Make sure you don't cut the mounting holes for where the trim fits on and then seal it with some paint to stop rust.

Also try some 2mm spacers to push the wheel out slightly. Also do what Red_SXI suggests and spray stonechip or primer inside to see where it rubs.
