theya re made for skating, the flat sole, and padding inside is to support all the foot, and the rubber up the front and sides is so you dont rip the fuck outta them when ollie-ing (only know this from tony hawks 4)

i only ever buy shoes like that now, they are way more comfortable than other styles, dc's are the best, but cost like £60 a pair
